Mindy theorizes that the killer is following the rules of film votes, specifically the rule that anyone can die while the ballot will still continue. Ghostface latterly attacks the group in Sam and Tara's apartment, killing Quinn and Anika, but Sam's swain Danny helps the others escape. Ghostface leaves behind a mask worn in the Windsor College killings.
Wayne is officially taken off the case following Quinn's death, but vows to help the group and retaliate his son. Gale takes the group to an abandoned cinema she set up while probing, which has been set up as a sanctum to the Ghostface killers, including munitions and outfits from each set of attacks. Ghostface calls Gale at her apartment and torments her about the death of Dewey Riley, before killing her swain Brooks and attacking her. Sam and Tara arrive just in time to stop Ghostface from killing Gale, who's taken to the sanitarium. The group agree to meet Kirby at the theater to trap Ghostface. On the shelter platform, they're separated, and Mindy is picked by Ghostface in a moving train. At the theater, Sam sees a daydream of her father, original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis, who reminds her to defend herself and mistrust everyone.
Taking her father's cutter from the original murders, Sam realizes they've been locked outside. Wayne calls Sam to advise her that Kirby was fired from the FBI months before. Two Ghostfaces appear and attack Chad. As Tara and Sam attempt to escape, Kirby and Wayne both arrive with ordnance drawn. Wayne shoots Kirby, revealing himself as a third Ghostface and the architect; his cohorts are his children, revealed to be Ethan and a still-alive Quinn. The triad reveal that they're Richie's family who want to retaliate his death. They were responsible for defaming Sam online and plan to frame her for their killing spree. Sam and Tara gain the upper hand and fight off the Bailey family, with Tara pecking Ethan and Sam killing Quinn, while compactly knocking Wayne unconscious. Sam also dons her father's Ghostface costume, taunts Wayne with a phone call using the voice changer, and virulently stabs him to death. Ethan resurfaces, but Kirby smashes the TV set that killed Stu Macher( b) over his head, killing him.
Sam agrees to let Tara live her life more singly and Tara agrees to go to remedy. As the still-alive Mindy, Chad, and Kirby are taken to the sanitarium, Sam gapes at her father's Ghostface mask before discarding it and following Tara and Danny into the megacity.
